Need a Ride is designed to collect as little as possible. In short: we do not collect, store, or share any of your personal data.
None. Need a Ride has no accounts, no analytics, no advertising, and no tracking. We do not operate any server that receives your data. The only outside service the app uses is the map provider described under “Maps” below.
The names and phone numbers you add are stored only on your device. They are never uploaded anywhere. Deleting the app removes them.
When you tap “Pick me up,” the app reads your current location (or a spot you choose on the map) solely to include it in the text message you send. Your location is used on your device to compose that message and is not collected, logged, or transmitted to us. The message — including the location — is sent by you, directly to the recipient you choose: on iPhone through Apple’s Messages, and on Android through your phone’s own messaging app.
Messages are sent using your device’s standard messaging (SMS/iMessage on iPhone, your default SMS app on Android). On Android, the app opens your messaging app with the recipient and text filled in, and you press send yourself. We are not a party to those messages and do not have access to them. Carrier message rates may apply.
The app shows a map and turns the pickup spot into a street address so the message is easier to read.
We do not receive any of this information.
The app is suitable for all ages. We collect no data from anyone, including children.
